Evaluating Your Loom's Shed

When you start weaving, look for ways to adjust your loom to achieve clear sheds and easy treadling.

Weave a couple inches, then put a stretcher on near the fell to maintain the width, and adjust the tension to get a good separation of the warp threads.

Open a shed and feel the tension on the top of the shed. Then feel the bottom of the shed.

The tension should be the same. If it is not the same you may need to try some adjustments to your loom. The simplest solution is to loosen the tension, but you might need a tight tension.

If you have a shed which is too small, or is not clear, or you are having problems catching threads, read through the list of adjustments you can make to your jack loom sheds.
